March 2025 bZ4X update details revealed
When it arrives in Australia, the bZ4X line-up will gain a larger 74.7kWh battery.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the bZ4X upgrades would provide valuable enhancements for Toyota BEV customers.
“Launching our first battery-electric vehicle in 2024 was a historic moment for Toyota, and a very important step on our multi-pathway journey to decarbonisation,” Mr Hanley said.
“These upgrades to the bZ4X deliver valuable improvements for our customers, along with an increase in power which is sure to put a smile on the driver’s face.”
Along with the larger battery, bZ4X gains an increase in power starting with the 2WD grade which increases front motor output from 150 to 165kW.
Meanwhile, the bZ4X AWD has received a 92kW increase in combined output to 252kW, giving it a total output comparable to other sport-focused SUVs currently in the Australian market.
The increase in output also boosts the performance of the bZ4X AWD, cutting its 0-100km/h acceleration time by 1.8 seconds to a nimble 5.1s.
Along with the increase in battery size, bZ4X engineers have also improved the battery thermal control and pre-conditioning to offer better charging performance in cold temperatures.
Toyota has completely updated the bZ4X’s cabin, giving it a modern and premium design. At the heart of this makeover is a new 14.0-inch multimedia screen that brings a fresh feel to the BEV interior.
On the outside, the bZ4X flaunts a sleek and streamlined look, featuring an updated version of Toyota’s Hammerhead front design language, which ties everything together beautifully.
Both grades also sport new gloss black fenders, enhancing that premium vibe even more.
Stay tuned for more details about the updated bZ4X range, which will be revealed as we approach the Australian model release expected in the fourth quarter of this year!

- Full-service lease option helps alleviate any BEV ownership uncertainty
Toyota bZ4X Quick details
Launching in its latest global specification, the bZ4X draws on more than a quarter of a century of Toyota leadership in hybrid vehicles.
The bZ4X represents another important step in the multi-pathway approach to electrification that includes a range of technologies
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the bZ4X offers capability, practicality, and value for those suited to a BEV lifestyle.
“The bZ4X is not just an electric car; it’s the foundation for the next phase of our electrification strategy that hits a sweet spot with its mid-size SUV dimensions, space and functionality,” Mr Hanley said.
“As the first Toyota BEV, it will accelerate our multi-pathway approach that’s designed to help our customers lower their tailpipe carbon emissions while leaving no-one behind,” he said.
The bZ4X is the first Toyota in Australia to use the new BEV-dedicated e-TNGA platform, which has been designed and optimised for a new range of electric vehicles.
It integrates the battery and motor generator into the vehicle’s structure, providing extra rigidity and a low centre of gravity for stable driving dynamics.
This approach allows the wheels to be pushed further outward to the front and rear, leaving more room for passengers within the vehicle’s footprint.
It also offers the versatility of front or all-wheel-drive traction – the latter providing benchmark off-road capability among all-electric SUVs.
e-TNGA platform
The e-TNGA platform gave designers the freedom to create an innovative BEV that embodies the inherent appeal of an SUV shape, while achieving impressive aerodynamic efficiency.
The bZ4X is the first model in Australia to display Toyota’s distinctive ‘hammerhead’ frontal design theme, where the bonnet surface continues to the nose and extends to each corner.
Inside, the bZ4X makes the most of the improved passenger space afforded by the e-TNGA platform, benefiting visibility, passenger and cargo space, practicality and comfort.
